The comedy/drama was voted best film at the Zimbabwe Music and Arts awards in the UK recently and at the Amasiko Heritage Festival in South Africa.

“It’s a good feeling winning these awards and it means a lot,” said Karonga, who doubles as a community psychiatric nurse. Ashley Majaya also scooped a ZIMMA award for the best actor for his leading role as Munya in the film.

The movie portrays the trials brought about by interracial marriages in the UK where African culture and beliefs are traded for a westernised lifestyle.

In this hilarious offbeat comedy a conservative African couple travel to Europe for the first time to attend the graduation ceremony of their daughter, but find a massive culture shock at the hands of their European daughter-in-law. Throughout the unpredictable scenes of this hilarious trip the parents and children are locked in a destructive debate on customary family and marriage ideals.

“We aim to tell the African story through Hollywood standards despite working on low budget films,’’ she said. The movie stars Demetria Karonga Ashley Majaya, Julie Burleton and Gibson Chimuzinga.
