The Harare-born mentor will become the first coach to reach 100 matches as coach, a development players believe will steer India to victory over their sworn rivals.

The 62-year-old Zimbabwean coach took over as India coach after the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup earlier this year.

Previously, Fletcher had spent eight years as the coach of England, leading them to the 2005 Ashes victory over former world champions Australia, among other notable achievements at the helm of the English side.

A key Indian batsman believes Fletcher’s previous spell working in England will also inspire India to victory when they take on the English side in the eagerly-awaited Test series.

“The Lord's Test is going to be Fletcher’s 100th as a coach, which is a great achievement in itself, and he will be the first coach to achieve it,” Vangipurapu Laxman said in an interview.

“I expect the coach to provide plenty of insight into how to beat the English on home soil, starting with the first Test at Lord's today,” he said in an interview. “It has been brilliant working with Duncan. The time we spent with him in the tour of West Indies was very encouraging and you know from just talking to him that he has such a deep knowledge of the game. Someone like Duncan can only make you a better cricketer.”
