“The ZC has decentralized management and funding of the game in the country. This development will see the day-to-day administration of the sport being run by five regional franchises.”
Banda said the development was aimed at empowering local units to take responsibility of local ZC facilities.
“It will not be possible for ZC to directly maintain all the country’s cricket facilities from central funds. A similar system was implemented by the South African Cricket Association in 2004 and has been very successful,” said Banda.
Banda added that the creation of the five regional franchises would effectively reduce dependency on ZC.
“This will install a sense of ownership by players, staff and the local community, he said. ZC will provide the franchise with an annual grant to assist funding requirements.
