Speaking in Muxungue town said that there have been five such incidents in recent days. One of the victims was an old woman who was tortured to death in her own home.
“Here in Muxungue, Renamo is killing influential figures and some community leadersâ€, accused Taipo. She named three of the victims as Jacob Muchanga, Muchena Machava and Joao Moiana.
Taipo stressed that Mozambique is a state ruled by law in which nobody is authorised to take the lives of anybody else.
Muxungue is in Chibabava district, which is the birthplace of Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama. The governor urged the local residents to bear a message to Dhlakama, urging him to enter into a dialogue, without pre-conditions, with President Filipe Nyusi, to put an end to the current politico-military tensions.
“We want Renamo to look into its conscience and stop destroying what the government and the population are building with much effort and sacrificeâ€, she said. “We don’t want any children orphaned in this districtâ€.
“I want to tell you that we are togetherâ€, declared Taipo, “because we are a government of the people for the peopleâ€.
