Doctors and nurses joint statement

ZIMBABWE HOSPITAL DOCTORS ASSOCIATION AND ZIMBABWE NURSES ASSOCIATION JOINT POSITION ON DECEMBER 2015 SALARIES

zimbabwe-nurses-and-doctors-1The ZHDA and ZINA national leaderships have met and came up with the following joint position on December 2015 salaries and bonus payments

*We reject and condemn with the contempt it deserves the ill advised move by Dr Gwinji, the Permanent secretary in Ministry of Health to award paltry $1per day as transport allowances to unpaid, suffering and disgruntled health workers. We demand our full salaries and bonuses so that we and our families live in dignity.

*Dr Gwinji must be reminded that we need a holistic revision of attitudes and discarding of the casual approach towards the payment of health workers. We have long proposed the availing of sustainable non monetary incentives as a way of rewarding health workers. This proposal was thrown into the dustbins

* We advise the Ministry of Health that doctors, nurses and other health workers will fail to come to work with effect from 1 January 2015 should the employer fail to provide a meaningful bailout package to cover transport expenses, daily living allowances and basic expenses. This package must not be imposed but must be agreed by both parties.

In solidarity with suffering doctors and nurses of Zimbabwe
