Goromonzi win chess league

Goromonzi are the winners of this year's Harare Schools chess league. They won 10 games, drew one and lost two. They lost to Mabvuku High School and St. Ignatius College with 3,5_2,5 scores. The team never looked back after the two defeats. They then drew against Mufakose 2 High before beating Mazowe High A team 3,5_2,5.

Anesu Gwezere lead his troops to a successful campaign this year after clinching the league for the first time since 2000. Kudzasishe Manyanya has displayed some good chess since taking part in Dubai at the World Youth Chess Championships where he performed well in that tourney and earned himself a FIDE rating of 1826.

Mabvuku High School as well as Prince Edward were closely behind the leaders. Mabvuku won 9 games, drew two games and lost 3 games out of 14 games. Munyaradzi Thom, Brian Shokoni, Solomon Chimuzura, Phillip Jekera and Trevor Macheka was the team for Mabvuku. Prince Edward was lead by Lawrence Tavagwisa and Alpha Chaendera led the team to a succesful season.

Meanwhile Zimbabwe Chess Federation will host a Grand Prix at Chevron Hotel from the 20-21st of July. All roads lead to Masvingo for the Grand Prix.

Elisha Chimbamu,Spencer Masasngo, Heath Darare, Castro Sibanda and IM Rodwell Makoto will be vying for the top honours in Masvingo to take the top spot.
