All set for Miss Carnival 2014

The second edition of the Miss Carnival 2014 finale is expected to roll into life today at the majestic Rainbow Towers with a bevy of 18 beauties from across the country vying for the title.

The pageant is part of the Harare International Carnival and running under the theme, Celebrating the Beauty of our Diversity.

The winner tonight will land a chance to represent Zimbabwe and assume the tourism ambassadorial during this decorated event and an honor to lead the carnival street party next Saturday.

Several attractive prizes will be on offer, including a brand new car, cash prizes and several opportunities that will impact positively on the lives of young people in Zimbabwe and beyond.

The long search for the Miss Carnival Queen 2014 that started months ago will culminate in the crowning of one of the beauties worth to also represent the country and its people on the international stage.

Last year’s winner, Danai Chipunza raised the country’s flag high during the Miss International finals that were held in Malaysia last December.

She also made it into the Top 10 and was crowned Miss Talent second runner up.

Since its inception last year, the Miss Carnival search has been a platform to select and empower young Zimbabwean girls through imparting knowledge on the rich cultural aspects of the country’s tradition, cus¬toms and values.

Topping the bill is visiting Exodus Steel Band from Trindad &Tobago, Zimbabwean musician Pee Kay and urban grooves diva Cindy Munyavi together with a host of Zim-dancehall artists will perform during the pageant and after the crowning of the queen.

Meanwhile, the Carnival will certainly be an interesting nine days of fun, extraordinary showcases of culture and tradition through dance, music, and comedy.

This showcase will certainly keep the streets of Harare and its venues busy throughout the fete with amazing showcases including the highly anticipated Carnival Parade and street party hosted by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Carnival lovers can expect to catch all the fun at Airport Lounge during the Samba Night that is set to feature 12 Brazilian dancers and local raunchy dancers Beverly Sibanda and Zoey Sifelani.

It will certainly be a thrilling encounter considering Samba is an old Brazilian style of dance with many variations, yet African in origin.

“This year’s Carnival is going to be bigger and better. We have had an increase in the number of participating countries as compared last year.

“This platform certainly gives our country the prospect to showcase our diversity and market our brand internationally,” said ZTA spokesperson Sugar Chagonda during an interview with The Zimbabwean.

Meanwhile, the City of Harare held a welcome reception for the visitors and participating countries yesterday.

This nine day extravaganza is running under the theme, Celebrating Our Diversity.
