My Best event

The World Paralympics Championships held in France in 2002, where I managed to compete in the in the 200m race.

My Best Paralympics dream

Sponsors pouring their money into the games. We need more games like swimming for amputees. Leg amputees should have their own race and not get mixed with those with different disabilities. More disabled people should be seen in sport than on the streets.

My Best Paralympics colleague

South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius.

My Best Inspiration

Australia’s Tim Matthews, the first amputee I met outside the country after the accident that claimed my arm. At that time he would complete a 100 metres in 10.75m, almost the time for able bodied international sprinters.

My Best Stadium

The Nest Stadium, China. I liked its shape, which is like a bird’s nest.

My Best advice to aspiring Paralympics

There are great benefits for the talented. The games can be a source of living. I had nothing when I started, but now I am a proud owner of various assets. The games can provide employment for the disabled. There are multitudes of corporate bodies willing to help and aspiring participants should give it a try – it’s worth it. – Brenna Matendere
