Chicken Inn though had to endure a late Caps United fightback that saw the Green Machine score two gaols in five minutes one from Hardlife Zvirekwi in the 80th minute and another from Leonard Fiyado in the 84th minute.

For their effort, Caps United were rewarded with $40 000 not a small amount considering the financial problems the Green Machine have been going through during the off season. The other two participants FC Platinum and Monomotapa took home $20 000 each.

Chicken Inn captain was named the man of the match. However, the tournament, held at Mandava Stadium over two days did not attract the anticipated big crowd due to the absence of two of the country’s top football teams, Dynamos and Highlanders whom the sponsors say did not receive many votes in the voting process that involved members of the public.

The NetOne Charity Shield which is usually contested by the winners of the league title and the Mbada Diamonds Cup is the tournament that opens up the soccer season every year. The 2013 soccer season is pencilled to start at the end of this month.

For Chicken Inn, who finished third in the 16 team Castle Lager PSL race in 2012, signs are that more is to come from the Bulawayo side who are enjoying only their second year in the Premiership.
