Mutare tees-off

The Navistar Leopard Rock Open golf tournament tees off here tomorrow, with professional golfers and top amateurs expected to battle it out in celebration of Navistar Insurance Company’s 10th anniversary.

Stiff competition is expected in the Zimbabwe Golf Association-recognised amateur category, which carries national ranking points.

“The event is meant to nurture amateur golfers and we are expecting about 120 players. We are happy with the interest shown by the golfers and we will celebrate by giving back to the community,” said Navistar regional manager, Howard Ziko.

“The tournament will also groom and nurture professional golfers. We have hired professional golfers to teach them basic golf skills.”

Mutare’s Hillside golf club captain, Martin Nyaundi, said: “We are confident of a positive result because we selected a very strong team. We are expecting a top two finish.”
