Dead men do talk

Yes they do! Dead men do talk. In Genesis 4 God asks Cain where is his brother Abel. Cain replies that he does not know and asks God if he, Cain, is his brother’s keeper. And the Lord says to him, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.”

The Lord goes on to tell Cain that when he tills the ground it shall no longer yield its strength and that he shall be a fugitive and a vagabond. God declared in His sixth commandment, “You shall not murder.”

Many Zimbabweans have been brutally killed in this land. The blood of thousands of Zimbabweans is crying out from the ground to a holy and just God. Yes – dead men do talk.

One of the saddest stories I heard was revealed, many years ago, by a Zimbabwean who had gone to South Africa and became involved in the media. In a documentary she had interviewed a man who had been heavily involved in the brutal killings of the eighties. The man was tormented beyond what he could bear.

He related a story of burying people alive and the man at the top was an old man. He told of how, as he was shovelling in the soil to that grave, this mudara’s eyes became fixed on him. The last thing he saw were those eyes staring at him as the soil covered the old man. He became bitterly tormented by those eyes, even years later. I do not know what became of that man.

Isaiah 26:21 tells that the earth will disclose her blood and will no more cover her slain. Nothing will permanently be kept hidden. There is a future day when all we have done and said will come before a righteous and holy God to be judged.

On the day of Pentecost when the crowds asked Peter, “What should we do?” Peter replied, “Repent, be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:37, 38)

If you have a tormented soul, Peter’s words to you are for you to turn from your sin, turn from your ways and turn to Jesus Christ totally and fully and follow Him, telling Him of your misdeeds. Receive His forgiveness and be free of torment. Then be baptised in water in obedience and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
