No duty on software

There will be no duty on software importation, the minister of Information and Communication Technology Nelson Chamisa said last Friday.

Following the removal and extension of the duty removal on all ICT products, through the budget statement by minister of Finance Tendai Biti’s mid term fiscal policy, the country has continued to experience the growth in the information and technology sector.

Chamisa said following the success of the duty removal on all ICT gargets they have implemented the same initiative on software, which he said plays a central role in the information superhighway.

“We have had problems with software piracy in Zim. We are trying to also deal with those challenges,” he said.

However, the MDC-T minister expressed concern over the risk of making Zimbabwe a dumping site of substandard products by other foreign countries.
